The schedule at Tanglewood for July 2013 includes an impressive array that should prove popular with both the casual cultural economy consumer and the classical music aficionado. It has pop music star power with Jackson Browne filling the usual James Taylor Fourth of July slot, while JT takes the year off to write an album of songs. On July 13, Tanglewood legend Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story will be performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Newman in his BSO debut, while the newly re-mastered film is shown on large screens in high definition with the original vocals and dialogue intact.
