Tuesdays: Rhythm Tap Dance
Dancer and instructor Stefanie Weber teaches Rhythm Tap Dance: The Art of Sounds and Movement Combined.
The introductory class at 5:30pm is gentle and fun for all ages. Afterwards, Beyond Basics/Ensemble is open by permission only to students with rhythm tap dance experience, and focusses on improvisation and new choreography for performance. Guest musicians are invited to be a part of this class and performance opportunities are offered for students throughout the year.

Beginning Friday, Jan. 4: Rhythm Songs in Rhythm Tap
A new beginner/advanced beginner jazz tap class is offered on Fridays too! The class is taught by Sherry Hains-Salerno, musician, jazz tap artist, graduate of the Jazz Tap Residency taught by Dianne Walker and Jimmy Slyde, and proud Pittsfield Public School music teacher.

Beginning Wed., Jan. 9: T’ai Chi classes
T’ai Chi lessons taught by instructor Jim Pullaro return to the Lichtenstein on Wednesdays! Jim is an experienced, certified instructor who teaches relaxed, informal classes. T’ai Chi is a graceful, slow motion dance that combines unique Chinese energy exercises with coordinated breathing. It is moderately aerobic, low impact and has been aptly called “meditation in motion.”

Tuesdays or Thursdays: Wheel thrown pottery
Ceramics are one of the most ancient art forms around. Experience the pleasure of making your own cups, bowls, and much more by learning wheel thrown pottery. Enjoy 12 hours of instruction on the potters wheel, plus glazing. Each student will throw 6-8 small pieces and classes run for 6 weeks.

Saturday, January 12: FREE Clay Adventures for kids
IS183 kicks off the new year with Clay Adventures, a FREE art making session on Saturday, January 12 from 10am to 12:00 noon, with ceramic artist Nancy Magnusson. Clay Adventures is one of the many popular classes offered by IS183 Art School’s “Making Art Together” series. Children of all ages are invited to attend and must be accompanied by an adult.

Beginning Tues., Jan. 15: Intro to Watercolor Painting
Dive into the luminous world of watercolor painting. Learn to mix colors, explore wet-on-wet and dry brush techniques, and paint from observation and imagination using basic materials! Each class will introduce students to different aspects of this medium through simple exercises and interesting projects.

Beginning Thursday, Jan. 17: Portfolio Development
This class is for students who are developing a portfolio for college or art school. A studio project with a specific objective will be assigned by the instructor to be worked on during and outside of class. The course will include individual and group critiques, studio time, as well as information on the admissions process to college and art schools. An exciting and useful class for anyone considering art school.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20: Digital Photography
For those who want to move beyond their digital camera’s “auto” setting and take control of the photography process, this class focuses on both SLR-style digital cameras and also advanced point and shoot cameras. Bring your camera, related accessories, appropriate manuals, and come learn how to create the images you want to make!

Beginning Thurs., Feb. 28: Art Playgroup for ages 3-5!
For our youngest artists and their caregivers, this popular class offers an experience for children to explore their creativity in a social setting. For the curious and inventive, open-ended art experiences featuring varies and stimulating materials are offered, where children can learn at their own pace and guided by the instructor and with the help of the caregiver. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Just wondering if the ar playgroup will be held again in the summer, as my son will not be three until then. I know many moms who have kids around 1-2 1/2 who would love something like this to do with their child. If you believe it is a possibility, please email back to me as I am very interested.
