The Berkshire Museum on South Street in Pittsfield was founded in 1903 by local business leader Zenas Crane, patriarch of Dalton’s Crane family and head of the Crane Paper Company, makers of paper currency for the United States.

The Berkshire Museum’s mission is to actively promote cultural education in the Berkshire community principally through the use of interactive exhibitions.

The life size stegosaurus Wally welcomes visitors as they enter the Berkshire Museum with its fourteen galleries, aquarium featuring a touch tank, 291 seat air-conditioned theater, classrooms and museum store.

The Little Cinema is a program of films shown in the Berkshire Museum theatre.

The Berkshire Museum’s exhibit, Kid Stuff: Great Toys from Our Childhood, has been extended to run through October 21, 2007. The annual Festival of Trees starts November 17 and runs through New Year’s Eve. The museum is open seven days a week and closed on major holidays.
