Tanglewood schedule June 26 – July 6, 2010

Koussevitsky Music Shed at TanglewoodOpening night at Tanglewood is July 9, 2010, by which time the Berkshires’ favorite venue will already have attracted scores of thousands of visitors with a pre-season schedule that must be the envy of cultural centers, vacation, and tourist destinations anywhere. For Berkshire county residents and regular visitors to Tanglewood and the Berkshires, the lineup is a familiar one in terms of personnel, all of whom can be counted upon to deliver performances of singular artistry. That’s how one gets to become familiar to audiences in the Berkshires, and thats how the Berkshires gets ranked near the top of all destinations world-wide on the recent survey published by National Geographic.

A Prairie Home Companion at TanglewoodFirst on the 2010 Tanglewood schedule is A Prairie Home Companion at Tanglewood, with Garrison Keillor, making their 11th consecutive appearance with a June 26 live broadcast of their pretty good radio show. Last year’s show featured performances by Arlo Guthrie and Steve Martin, with the Deep Canyon Rangers.

Mark Morris Dance Group continues its collaboration with the Tanglewood Music Center Fellows with concerts June 27 and 28 that will include Morris’s Grand Duo, set to music by Lou Harrison, and a new work choreographed to Beethoven arrangements of traditional folk songs.

The Tanglewood Music Center Instrumental Fellows annual String Quartet Marathon also takes place June 27 and 28.

4 Boston Pops concerts on 2010 Tanglewood schedule

The Boston Pops will celebrate their 125th anniversary with 4 appearances on the Tanglewood schedule, beginning with a July 2 concert, with conductor Keith Lockhart. Other Pops concerts will be with Arlo Guthrie, July 18, the annual Tanglewood on Parade, Aug. 3, and Film Night at Tanglewood with John Williams, Aug. 14, 2010.

Carole King & James Taylor

Berkshire county resident James Taylor returns for two concerts, July 3 & 4, in the midst of the Carole King & James Taylor ‘Troubador Reunion’ 2010 World Tour. Taylor’s unprecedented 5-day series of concerts and events at Tanglewood last summer accounted for nearly 20 percent of the BSO’s receipts for the entire 2009 Tanglewood season.

On July 5, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and TMC Conducting Fellows lead the TMC Orchestra in a program of Falla, Albéniz, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Debussy.

The Emerson String Quartet, with guest clarinetist David Shifrin, close Tanglewood’s pre-season schedule July 6 in Ozawa Hall with a chamber concert of music by Bach and Mozart, including Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet in A.

Tanglewood tickets

Tanglewood tickets go on sale to the general public Sunday, February 14, 2010. Tickets will be available online, and through SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200. Regular season ticket prices at Tanglewood range from $9-$115. Tickets for Open Rehearsals are $17.

Tickets will also available for purchase in person at the Tanglewood Box Office at Tanglewood’s Main Gate on West Street in Lenox, MA, starting June 18.
